Description

Designed by Golf Design Services, the Barrhead Golf Course is situated on rolling, wooded terrain along the Paddle River. Proximity to Edmonton and nearby camping has made this beautiful course very popular with tourists. City residents enjoy the course too and many come for its challenging level of play and its friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Another good hole is the 6th with its excellent views of the Paddle River. Players start this 384 yard par four from an elevated tee and must place their shots to a narrow landing Campgroundbordered by tall large spruce on either side.

This course has two different characteristics. the original nine holes have wide open fairways, with medium-sized greens that are rather flat. the fairways on the newer nine holes are tree lined, well bunkered and quite narrow. the greens are fairly large with some very big breaks. the signature hole is #15, a 384-yard, par 4, with a dogleg left fairway. the tee shot must carry 160 yards over the Paddle River and uphill to a small green that is surrounded with bunkers and is quite undulating.

This is a great course for practicing your short game. the fairways are lined with large trees. the greens are small and mostly flat. Water comes into play on three of the nine holes. the riding carts are only available for seniors.

Description

Set high atop the Swan Hills, the Swan Hills Golf and Country Club is a challenging 9 hole layout that offers a good test to any golfer's game. At 3500 ft above sea level, not only does your ball fly farther, but your eyes wander as well with some breathtaking vistas. Narrow undulating fairways, elevated tees and greens, and heavy bush are all part of this wilderness golf experience. Finished in 1989, the course is a testament to the volunteer efforts of the people of Swan Hills and the generous support of the numerous oil patch companies that are the lifeblood of the community.

This is a hilly course with plenty of rough and narrow, tree-lined fairways. Flat lies are few and far between on this layout. the course is located in bush country and indigenous foliage was integrated into its design. Strategically-placed water hazards affect play on five of the eighteen holes. the signature hole is #8, a 155-yard, par 3, offering a panoramic view of the countryside from the hilltop tee box.

the Westlock Golf Club dates back to the 1920s. Originally a 9 hole course, it was recently expanded to 18 holes. Westlock's fairways follow a winding creek through a heavily treed valley with the newer back 9 partially diverting from the creek and bringing three large ponds into play.

the greens on the back 9 were designed by a local doctor who hails from Scotland. True to his heritage, he created large, undulating putting surfaces that are well bunkered. the older greens on the front 9 tend to be smaller but are just as well protected by sand.

the long par five 18th hole is considered by many to be the most difficult on the course. Right off the tee on this narrow hole players are forced to place an accurate tee shot, avoiding trees and Wabash Creek, to remain in contention for par. the approach shot isn't any easier and the green is unforgiving to all but the best of played shots.

Westlock is a relaxed club where visitors are always welcome. After your game take time to enjoy a cool beverage with friends in its pleasant clubhouse.
